
The
composition of the Methodist Church in Malaysia largely reflects the racial
composition of Malaysia. There are 389 churches and 590 preaching points
with 446 pastors and ministerial staff. The total membership of the
Methodist Church is about 160,000, consisting of 100,000 confirmed members
and about 59,000 preparatory members.
SIAC congregation comprises Iban-speaking congregations in Sarawak and Johor
Bahru. It serves 46 churches in Malaysia with over 27,000 congregation
members.
The Methodist Church in Malaysia has a general conference. General
Conference comprises the following Annual Conferences.
Rev
Steward Damat was elected President of SIAC in 2008. He is an ordained
minister with the Sarawak Iban Annual Conference since 1986. He has served
in various boards of the Conference and as Conference Secretary from 2005 -
2008.
He was a theological educator at the Methodist Theological School in Sibu,
Sarawak for 18 years. Prior to his full – time teaching in MTS, Rev Damat
served as a pastor in Kapit, Sarikei and Sibu Districts. He graduated with a
Bachelor of Theology degree (1986) from Seminari Theoloji Malaysia in Kuala
Lumpur and a Master of Ministry and Master of Theology degree in Pastoral
Theology (1999) from Trinity Theological College, Singapore.
He is married to Lau Lee Lam and they have one son, Abraham and three
teenage daughters Adele, Angela and Amenjah.
